Final Evaluation

What did I intend to do at the start of the project

My aim for this project was to gain an insight into the music industry and to gain experience in not only music production but also in event planning. I had wanted to focus more on the music production side of things so I more organised how things would go with Jordon as Olivia focused more on the event side of things, we did help each other with these things and this worked well. I wanted to focus on this side and do more research into the industry because this is what I want to do in the future and it would give me good experience and knowledge on how i can progress and how I can make it into a stable career.

How does this compare to what I achieved

This didn’t always go to plan, as at the beginning of the project I should have been a lot more proactive in what I was doing and take charge a lot more with how Jordon was progressing. I had hoped to have a few more tracks so that we could make a mini album but we only ended up getting one track so I was a bit disappointed with that. We had a successful gig that was organised between me and Olivia, I just wish that we could have had more than one so that we could make it better with the feedback that we received.

How did we work well as a team and as individuals

I worked with Liv very well as we are both skilled in opposite areas, I am skilled in the writing side and the non-public side of things like making the promotion clips but Liv actually interacting with the public side of things, I am also the one who wrote a lot of plans and a lot of evaluations while Liv wasn’t as skilled in this, there was a lot of written work so I do wish that Liv could have done some more but I’m satisfied with how my written work is.

How did my research help me

My research was quite detailed, I researched a lot of platforms to release my music on and then weighed up the pros and cons of each to help me decide what platforms were easiest to publish on and what platforms would get the most publicity which then helped me choose the platforms best fit to the track I was given. I then researched what Labels and artists of a similar demographic and similar level of Jordon to see how easy it was to progress in the industry and to also get inspiration on how to move forward with the label. It was well needed research and I have a wider knowledge of what I want to do and what I want to go into. I then went on to research how I should promote my music and what the best ways to do this were. This was helpful as I found out a lot on how to use social media to get a following and how to balance the promotion as well as everything else I needed to do. When I researched the roles within a record label I gained knowledge of areas that I excelled in and areas that needed developing. Which I will then take into my FMP.

What would I do differently next time

I think that next time I will try to do it by myself instead of doing it with someone else, OD music (Liv and mines Label) will continue to be a group project but I will ask liv if she wants to carry on with it as for my FMP I want to take it further and see where I can get with it. I also want to organise a couple of gigs to add to the small following that we have, it might be of a similar set up as the last gig but I want to expand and see if I can go into Brighton and expand into this area rather than stay in Worthing town. The music is also better suited to Brighton as they have more of a DnB and rap scene already established. I also want to plan my FMP in much more detail because I feel like that will help me be more organised in what I'm doing.

Any extra comments

I have thoroughly enjoyed this project, it has taught me how to hold my temper and how to deal with stress in a productive way. It has also taught me how I need to be when dealing with artists and how I need to get them to create the tracks. I have learnt many more computer skills, promotional skills, and social/communication skills which I can bring with me throughout life.
