Project 1 - Open Evening at Northbrook MET

Our brief for Project 1 was to provide entertainment and activities for our college open evening . We provided a few bands to play throughout the evening and two main activities for the public to participate in. We also provided a map to demonstrate where students of the college came from, the public found this very interesting and they were very engaged.

The bands that we provided were semi-successful. We realised after our first band began to play that we should have sourced our bands differently, asking for a demo or going to see a gig so that we could see how they played, if they were professional and how they interacted with the public because our first band were disorderly and extremely rude. They were cursing and using foul language against the public, they didn't get through a full song before they were asked to leave because of their behaviour. Our second band however were the complete opposite, they were organised and were polite to everyone and people generally enjoyed their performance. For the future we think that we should have a wider range of music, like DJ's and other bands.

One of the two activities we provided was a Graffiti Wall which proved to be a great success within the college and with the wider public. People drew on it, put quotes on it, phrases and even put their social media on it. Overall everyone loved it and people were very engaged with it.

Our second activity was a photo booth which was well presented but potential students were with their parent so were reluctant to engage, maybe because they feared they might embarrass themselves or felt self-conscious. The idea had been based on a club or festival setting, however it was not appropriate for a college open evening.

Overall the project was successful and we worked well together as a team but it also gave us valuable experience and in future we will improve our research and execution.

During the planning process for Open Evening, I was involved in planning the Photo Booth although in preparation for the event we worked as a team to set up the Map, Photo Booth and Graffiti Wall. During the event I co-supervised the Photo Booth and the Graffiti Wall.

We worked well as a team. For the photo booth there was a group of 4 of us working together to spray paint the backdrop and a couple of us worked out the measurements the Theatre Technicians needed for the scaffolding that was used to set up the Photo Booth.

During Project 1, I developed skills such as Web design, Communication, Teamwork skills and further developed my research skills. These skills will be beneficial to me when planning Project 2
